Crazy that something like this can happen in broad daylight surrounded by people. He was mayor of a relatively large city called Gdnask. The story is light on details, but sounds like someone feels they were wrongfully imprisoned and took it out on this mayor. Crazy world we live in.

According to the CNN link that is the case, the ruling government is far right and this guy was much more moderate. But from the sounds of it this wasn't overly politically motivated.

This is probably bordering on conspiracy but the stabbist could have been hired by someone to yell and scream about his own conviction while actually killing for someone else. That guy would be the perfect hire because he has motivation aside from anything political, so there is cover for any outside influence.
