If I'm interested in a game enough to want to watch another person play (aside from a short Youtube walk-through video or maybe a funny cut-scene) I'm interested enough to play it myself.

And I've searched for Mayne's user-name twice now with no luck... was going to follow him even if I won't actually watch much.
idk if its ok to link directly, so
twitch dot tv/jayburner69

and yeah, i generally watch people playing games i actually play, unless i know them from something else.

i watch a good amount of stuff on twitch. but, there is a bunch of stuff other than gaming on there that doesnt need a camera/mic set up. i follow nasa, i follow a relaxing music and trivia channel. mxc has a channel where they play the show 24/7. i think there is a channel that plays anthony bourdain's show 24/7. tourist/travel channels. you dont need camera & mic for those necessarily.

twitch may have started with gaming, but there is a lot more out there. you can watch artists creating, singers, dudes working on cars, and big booba girls in any variety of "shows". some conventional creators will do twitch streams with Q&A sessions.

i also watch people play games because i like gaming. its fun to see mistakes, silly stuff, weird glitches, and to see someone finally get that boss, or beat that level. and i watch rpg related content, and people playing tabletop games.
I'm a big tabletop nerd, but I still don't really get into watching Critical Role or anything. I did watch Wheaton's TableTop series, but that was more about learning the game itself than watching the people play. I only consume about 1-2 hours of passive video content in a given day, so I'm pretty selective about what I spend it on. Time spent watching other people play games is time that I could be spending on gaming myself :D
im curious about when people say this, why dont you care for them? the sheer amount of variety means there is probably a podcast for something you like. or is it solely the format you have issue with?
I'm generally not interested in just listening to people talk, regardless of the subject. It's different if I'm watching them talk or if there's some other visual or audio component (depending on what it is)--I don't dig on "video essays" either for the most part. I did follow They Might Be Giants' podcast back in the day, but that was mostly just music. I don't like audiobooks or talk radio either. If I'm going to just listen to something, I'd rather it be music.

fair enough. i listen to a lot of podcast stuff at work, and i know not everyone can do that, so that gives me a lot more time to fill with stuff other than just music :)

I prefer as close to silence as I can get while working, unless I need to drown out someone doing yard work :D
