Dang it, eveything was going smooth as silk and then this happened. This is a new build - Asus P4C-800E Deluxe with Raptor 36 as the boot drive. The Raptor is SATA1 off the Intel controller (not Promise). No other drive is connected. I successfully installed XP Pro on the Raptor with no incident. Now, I added a brand new unformatted Maxtor IDE to the Primary IDE channel. Turned on the computer and it wouldn?t boot off the Raptor anymore, instead, it attempted to boot off the Maxtor which resulted in a dud. What?s wrong? Shouldn?t I be able to boot normally from the Raptor and then partition/format the new IDE Maxtor? Thanks.

Set the boot priorty in the bios to boot from the raptor on SATA 1 first before the PATA drive and you should be good.

That was it. My SATA was the first in the boot order and somehow it got demoted when the IDE came to town. Thanks all.
