Reminds me of a girl I went out with many decades ago. We had a similar discussion about why people in Europe don't celebrate Thanksgiving and the 4th of July but they do celebrate on New Years.
Funny thing was she understood why the British wouldn't celebrate the 4th of July but couldn't understand why the French didn't celebrate the 4th of July.
