hi ..

2 days ago i recieved all the parts for my new pc:-

athlon 64 3200+ 90nm
asus a8v deluxe rev2
1x512mb corsair value select ddr400 cas 2.5 (verified working)
antec performance II SX1040B II
asus x800pro TVD (vivo) (verified working)
etcetc irrelevent others etcetc

now.. my problem is quite strange, what happens is when i power up, the fans whirl and the big green light on the motherboard turns on but thats it, UNLESS the ram is not in slot B1. ( if it is not in B1, then i hear through my speakers something like "system failed due to cpu overclocking".)
even when i take both ram sticks out, i get no beeps or anything.

Now, today i stumbled across a motherboard problem and someone suggested maybe the motherboard was shorting out to the case causing it not to POST.

Well.. when i was setting up the case, i just randomly screwed in the standoffs, and so not all of them are connected to the motherboard with a screw. I heard this could be a problem - BUT, what are the symtoms of shorting?? i am a bit confused, any help would be great, before i start unscrewing my motherboard and case all overagain!!

thanks for reading this badly written thread 🙂

your first step is to put standoffs on the case only where there are screw holes for them on the motherboard. do that and report back to us.
