Maybe it's just me, but WTF kind of billing practice is this (Qwest)?

I just got off the phone with a Qwest billing representative. Just like I do at the end of every month, I called them up, asked how much I owed, & paid the balance in full via credit card. The first guy I talked to happened to mention another $60.99 in "wireless charges" that were on "final bill" - as in one step away from collections. WTF? I asked him when it was from... FEBRUARY?

Since he couldn't look at the contents of the bill he sent me to a billing representative.

He itemized the charges, & odds are I probably did owe them... But then I asked him...

Me: Why didn't anyone tell me there were additional charges on my account? This is July now, which means I've paid 4-5 bills since then with no mention of outstanding balances.
Him: Well, the charges are on two separate screens. Unless a customer specifically asked us to check outstanding charges we wouldn't normally do that.
Me: So if I didn't know the charges were there, & you guys don't check... What would have happened if that bill had just sat there?
Him: It would have gone outside Qwest for collections, at which point it would begin to affect your credit. Our credit management group could tell you more about that.
Me: (trying really hard to avoid being too sarcastic) Doesn't it seem a little curious that I would call in every month asking how much I owed, paying it in full, yet you wouldn't tell me about charges that were unpaid?
Him: (no reply)

If I had gotten marks on my credit history due to that I would have been :|PISSED:|. What more can I do besides call them & ask them to charge the total amount(s) I owe to my credit card?

That sucks. Couldn't they get in some sort of legal trouble for seemingly deceptive practices like that?

I hate qwest with a passion. Being an MIS director and having to deal with qwest wireless and qwest business, I can say that I have experienced more than a healthy share of qwests accounting and customer service. It's no wonder that qwest is one of the most frequently reported businesses to the BBB.

I'm so glad I'm not tied to them anymore.

Amen. The problems I had with them led to me filing complaints with the FCC.

of course, as with all government regulatory agencies, the complaints go straight to a large pile never to be seen again.

Don't even get me started on how much Qwest sucks, it's taken me over a year to get over a thousand $ of bogus charges removed from my account and I'm still working with them.

You do know that you can view your entire bill and make cc payments online, right?

Before you register for Qwest online you'll need a copy of your Qwest phone bill which has your 3 digit customer number.
