Maybe its just me but did the NFC East get stronger?

At least on paper...
Philly is a contender
Giants- got rid of sehorn and his anna nicole smith-type contract; got Brian Mitchell; another long snapper and punter; resigned Hilliard and Petitgout.
Redskins- Snyder wearing his money like a pimp; signed Randy Thomas; made offers for Chad Morton and L. Coles; got Trung Candidate; looks good so far I wonder if the Jets will match the offers.
Dallas- got Parcells; signed Ryan Young, Dan Campbell, and Richie Anderson. But the main reason is still the fact they got Parcells.

2 guaranteed wins per season...gone!

Thats true but the Giants lost their only game against them this season heh 🙁.

Philly better hope that Mark Simoneau can fill the hole left by Shawn Barber. I would have liked to see Tampa play in Philly. It'll be interesting to see what happens this year, I don't think that Tampa has a lock on the conference.

The Giants over-achieved last year, but if Keith Hamilton can turn the DL around, they have a shot at another 10-6 season.

Is it just me, or do the Redskins always seem to be throwing money around with no results? No matter how good they look on paper, they'll be around 8-8 at the end of the year.

Dallas could push it's way into the #3 NFC east spot this year, but I'm not sure that even Parcells can make that much difference in his first year. Why does he only take free agents that he has already coached? Because they know the system and can help the other players learn it? I can't argue with his results, but I am always thinking "WFT is he doing? Does he have a clue?"

I'm thinking that the NFC east will be a little more balanced this year overall, with little change in the total number of wins of all teams combined.

<-------- just glad the NFC North has 3 loser teams 😀

edit I forgot it's the NFC North now

Technically, the Giants didn't get rid of Jason Sehorns contract. He is still counting $8 million against the Giant's cap. He's just not going to play for them. Typically, teams have about $8 million in "dead" salary total, the Giants have that with one guy.

It doesn't make sense if they think they have a shot this year...they would have waited so they could spread the hit out over 2 years. They must be viewing this year as a reload year, then they'll clear that salary out so it is freed up for '04.

BTW, as a slower team, the move back to turf may hurt them. Too bad they gave up on grass.

Are they going to the old style Astroturf or the newer NextTurf, or whatever it's called? A local high school has the newer stuff around me, and supposedly it's pretty much like real grass. But anyways, something had to be done, the field was horrible.

It's Called FieldTurf, one of the new turfs that are out. The same as they have in Detroit and Seattle. Looked like it played pretty fast in Detroit, but I'm not sure if it plays as fast as the old style turf.

NFC South will be interesting too. Here's my predictions:

Bucs - definately repeat SuperBowl contenders. Kept all the important players so far, and even managed to keep Monte Kiffin in town
Falcons - definately moving on up. Vick really shined this past season, and that great game at Lambeau is indicative of things to come.
Saints - won't do so well this year. They fell apart towards the end of the season; Brooks is inconsistent; Turley's good as gone; can't rely on a former beer truck driver for star power.
Panthers - Mark my words...they are definately moving up! I expect them to be #2 in the division and definate playoff contenders...

Maybe...if they find a running back. Lamar Smith = gone
Oh, and a QB. Peete = ancient

I guess they'll be looking for a RB in the draft?

Solid defense, though. A good defense can cover up for a weak offense.

Champ Bailey is a free-agent after this season I believe.
