maybe I am retarded? P4PE won't POST :(

OK, so, I have a P4PE with 2.53 and 512 corsair xms 3500 ddr ram (stock cooling), and a radeon 9700.

the board will not post. no beeps, no nothing.

i turn it on, the fans all start up, the dvd/cdr (if connected) light up, the led's on the front light up, but that is it. furthermore, the button on the front of my case will not turn the computer on or off (the reset switch doesn't work either, but the HDD leds and power LEDs both work). no matter what i do, neither the mouse nor keyboard light up, the monitor never turns on. the floppy drive never makes its little noises....

i have tried this with my stick of ddr 3500, and with a firends ddr 2700 (both times in dimm slot #1)

if have tried this with and without the graphics card, and with a different graphics card. nothing.

so, does that mean i have narrowed the issue down to the processor or the mobo? or is it something glaringly obvious?

i really don't know what else to do. i desparately need help.

Is this all in the case? No beep right? What I would suggest is this:

1) take the motherboard out of the case.
2) only put the cpu w/hsf, video card, and ram on the motherboard.
3) See it post or not.

It could be a grounding issue. Happen to me once.

there are no beeps from the speaker?
is the speaker even connected?

try the asus voice error messages thing, i dont remember what its called atm(too early in the am) but i know its there, it involves switching a jumper around and the voice will come through the computer speakers (maybe you have to use onboard sound for it...)
