I type this question to you now from an IMB Personal Computer 300PL. This PC has a Pentium III 733mhz processor that runs with a 133FSB as near as I can tell. I'm wondering what the fastest processor is that I can put into this PC. I have a much faster main system that I use but I want this one to run as fast as it can go too. The processor is one of those slot type processors that come in that black plastic box that slides/snaps in perpendicular to the board.

I'm betting that the fastest I can use is 1,300mhz. Please let me know. The IBM site doesn't say anythinhg about this. Thanks!

Well it would depend on the BIOS support of the motherboard. Should be able to run a 1ghz P3, and maybe with a slotket adaptor it will run a Tualiton core which I think topped out around 1.4ghz.

I understand the OP's postion, he doesn't really need a new system, he just wants to maximize performance with what hes got. He doesn't want to spend $300 at the minimum for a new system he technically doesn't need but would like the current system he has to be a bit faster, to it's "maximum" potential..

You might want to check out getting more memory (dont know how much you have)

But I believe the fastest P3 is the 1.13 GHz one. What are you talking about w/ this 1.4 GHz CPU? AFAIK that would be getting into P4's which wouldnt work with his mobo and a 1.4GHz~ P4 is slower than a 1.13 GHz P3 anyway.
