Maya users...help needed

Ok. So I have a ~1.5 million polygon model of a dinosaur head (modeled in Maya 7, textured in ZBrush, imported as *.obj) that refuses to render in mentalray. Whenever I go to render the frame, the Helpline tells me that "Mentalray ran out of memory: aborting," and the render turns up blank (render time: 3:19). I mean, 1.5 million polygons isn't much for a dual 2.0ghz Opteron system with 2GB of ram, but it just refuses to give me an image. It renders fine using Maya Software, spitting a render image out within 30 seconds. Next step I'm going to take is to make a displacement map for the low-poly version of the model, but I'm just confused as to why it isn't able to render this. Any tips? Thanks!
