Not really shocking that wii won of course, but it is another month where wii outsold PS3 + 360 + PSP combined.

Sony must be happy about beating the 360 in a month when MS can't claim supply constraints, and when many people were waiting to buy the MGS4 80GB bundle.

Wii Fit was another smart move by nintendo to compete by going after non-gamers. I'm tempted to get one myself for the stretching & yoga activities, to supplement my lifecycle.

And in other news, the Wii has officially passed the 360 in US sales according to vgcharts, and will hit 12 million in US sales soon.

MS needs to do something like a price drop, feature increase (40GB Pro with wifi?) and new game bundle.

That, and get Jasper (with cooler/lower-power graphics chip) out the door so they can finally get me to buy one :)

Dave just bloody go out and get one. You keep saying that you're going to get one at the next revision. Far and wide the Falcon revision is the best one out there and frankly I doubt that yet another revision is going to make any noticeable decrease in RRoDs as low as they are now with Falcons.

Except that the GPU is allegedly the main cause of RRoD, and Jasper will offer a die-shrunk version of the GPU running much cooler in just a couple more months from now.

I did almost buy a 360 for Mass Effect, but then the PC version was officially announced. There isn't anything I need to play on the 360 right away so I'm working through my unplayed PC, PS2 and PS3 games while I wait.

I'm not saying anyone else needs to wait, Falcon did make a huge difference in reliability and is "good enough" for someone who wants to play GTA IV or a 360 exclusive now instead of in August or September.

Edit: unplayed stack - partial list
PC: Mass Effect, Orange Box, Oblivion Shivering Isles exp, Silent Storm
PS3: Marvel Ultimate Alliance (and want to at least rent Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted)
PS2: Personal 3 FES, Xenosaga 3, Final Fantasy X, Ico, Front Mission 4.
... so I don't think I'll even catch up before September.

And unless they're lazy, a die shrunk GPU should also allow for quieter cooling. I'm still waiting as well.

Quieter cooling won't do much considering the noise from the DVD drive. ;)

Yeah. DVD drive not withstanding, the Falcon is pretty quiet already (of course there's variation and some are louder than others). Mine is only slightly audible--if I could ignore the DVD drive that is.

Mario Kart sold more then I expected. I'm still amazed that the number of NDS being sold every month.

Added, taken from a Chris FOM post at ars G.E.S.C. since they were missing from NPD's report.

NPD stopped putting PS2 numbers in their reports as of this month:
"An NPD rep told GameSpot that the company now prefers "to focus on current generation platforms and not on previous generation platforms...There's a lot going on with PS2, but you have to pull the plug eventually." "

Maybe have to do with supply limit?

I don't think wiifit is as popular as everyone on the internet seems to think. I recently went shopping and every store that sells games had quite a few copies just laying around.

Are you sure they actually had them? A lot of stores are displaying a bunch of empty boxes for WiiFit for marketing purposes but they do not actually have them in stock.

Much like the Wii console itself, I have yet to see actual non-display boxes on store shelves. Nor in stock from Internet vendors.

However, it would not surprise me if a good chunk of the units sold were going to scalper sales.

I picked up a used RROD unit in March. Sent it in to MS, added 3 fans (2x 50mm internal, 1x 60mm in the back of the entertainment center - all external DC walwart powered) and shrouded the HSs using cardboard. Been running just fine :)

Yeah, but isn't the newer BenQ drive much quieter? I'm more concerned about the potential scratching of discs in the vertical position.

I only picked one up in one store, but it was the real thing. Unless they put weight in it for some reason.
