May I borrow some competition?

We all know that competition benefits the consumer. Personally I would like to see more competition added to AMD/INTEL and ATI/NVIDIA. These companies do realease good products and at variety of performance levels, but it would be much better for technological advancement and essentially variety and price for the consumer if there was more competition. From the ATI/NVIDIA point of view, I feel like NVIDIA is edging its way more towards performance while ATI towards the added features, which in turn causes less competition between them. Things would be much better if 3DFX kept its own head above water or if the Kyro II had a bigger impact on the industry. As for AMD/INTEL I think that AMD is going to continue to gain market share if they keep up what they've been doing since the introduction of the Athlon. But I think that a lack of more competitors slows the productivity of those companies. They have a fairly concrete timeline, not many surprises. In short, I'd love to see some new companies try to rival the current giants in the tech business...especially Microsoft.
