May be a stupid question but please help!!!

Are Category 5 and RJ-45 cables the same thing? And why do some networking kits come with just a Hub but others refer to a ETHERFAST hub? Are these 2 the same? Trying to throw together a small network and wanted to get some quick answers. If anyone knows of a comphrehensive site with a how to, please let me know. Oh yeah I will be using Win2k Pro. Thanks in advance.

There are different speed of Ethernet, the term "Etherfast" usually refers to 100Megabit/sec Ethernet.
Look for 100BaseTX or 100MBit or EtherFast hubs...(Might also be called 10/100 auto sensing or auto switching).

Cat5 cables are the type of cables usually used in an ethernet network.
RJ-45 refers not to the cable but to the plug on the end (looks like a fat phone plug). You will want Category5 Twisted Pair cables with RJ-45 jacks. The terms are usually used interchangably though. But technically RJ-45 is just the plastic plug, not a cable.

Just look for Cat5 cables and you'll get the right stuff.
