I remember hearing about it as it broke, but I didn't really understand what it was all about at the time.

Survivor of Kent State shootings sees echoes in today’s campus movement​

"Kent State University is marking an anniversary of the shootings that killed four students and wounded nine others on May 4, 1970. One survivor questioned if college administrators learned any lesson from the ’70s."


Seems the answer is no, not really.
