Maxtor warranty's

Do Maxtor drives have 3 or 5 year warrantys?

Looking at a drive at Bestbuy and it says 1 year only.

Edit: looking at Maxtor's website, its only 1 year... crap! They always die right after a year.

If I remember correctly, OEM HDDs have longer warranties than retail ones do.

I know right now the DiamondMax 10 (OEM) has a 3 year warranty and the MaxLine III (OEM) has a 5 year warranty.

Yep. And watch those retail drives, especially when they are on sale. The warranty ends 1 year after the build date which is indicated on the drive and NOT when you buy it. I bought a retail Maxtor in June knowing it had a 1 year warranty, but when I checked the drive it had a December date stamp. What I really got was a HD with a 6 month warranty that will probably go Tango Uniform next week. It's for my PVR files so there isn't any real risk of losing anything major. I figured it was on sale for a reason... now I know.

You didn't buy this from tigerdirect did you?

Not true, the retail warranty is 1 year from the purchase date with a receipt. If you lost your receipt then it is 1 year from the build date.
