Maxtor vs IBM and stuff

I'm thinking of getting either Maxtor or IBM drive(s). Since they're about the same price. Is there a significant benefit of either? Probably in the 30-45G range

Right now, with their new 15 gb/platter drives, the MAxtor's are posting up higher scores than the IBM drives, and are a bit cheaper to boot. IBM's seem to have the edge in peak transfer rates but the Maxtors all seem to do better in sustained transfer, which is where the real money is. Check out an older thread here where everyone posted up their HDTach scores and you'll see.

Both are very good brands,I`ve heard there are problems with IBM 75GXP range with AMD Athlons(not sure about Intel systems) faster then 733mhz using ATA-100,I believe there is a patch out for when running ATA-100 speed on Athlon based sytems, but apart from this go with either,I would say IBM as the edge just, but it`s a personal thing.

🙂

Thanks guys, that helped a lot. I think I'll go with the Maxtor for the sustained speed and because I'm getting an Athlon system (TBird 900).
