Hi,
I've recently put together a new computer, and everything seems to be working find, except for this drive issue. The external drive is a maxtor 320GB usb drive.
I'm running:
Vista 64
Asus P5Q-E
Core 2 Duo E8500
G.Skill RAM 2x2GB 1066 DDR2
PC Power & Cooling 750 Watt PSU
Radeon 4870 X2
The problem is:
When the drive is plugged in, Vista recognizes it just fine.
After a few minutes. This could be 3-4 minutes or 20 minutes, the drive will disconnect and immediately reconnect. Vista launches its autoplay and the folder for the drive pops up (as that is the default action). It is super annoying because it makes the drive unreliable, pops up the stupid window, and plays the usb device disconnect and connect sound in windows.
I have noticed that the frequency increased greatly when I launched World of Warcraft. I'm unsure as to what the correlation is there (if there is one). I would suspect power, but the drive is externally powered.
Anyone have any ideas? I'd definitely appreciate any insight.
Thanks,
-Shane
