Ok this thing is really getting on my last nerve! I am running a dual boot xp/98 system,I have the card installed and the drivers for it installed.I can boot into my systems with no drives plugged into the card but when i plug any drive into the card in either slot it gets regognized by the maxtor bios correctly and then it gets to the screen where I choose which operating system to boot and either one I choose it freezes as soon as I hit enter.I have tried changing pci slots, clearing the cmos on my motherboard and everything else I can think of,anyone ever run into this problem or have any ideas for me?Thanks.

I looked into that but there is only 1 flash avalible for the card and it says its only for drives over 137gb.I guess I just have to wait untill Maxtor gets back to me but I already know they are going to tell me to do everything that I told them I tried already.

I also have somewhat a similar problem while trying to install W2K Professional on a 30GB Hard drive connected to a Maxtor Ultra ATA/100 Controller. I hit F6 to select a RAID/SCI controller, and when prompted I install the driver diskette (downloaded the latest from Maxtor's website). At this point I get an error that is something like this:

File \win2000\ultra.sys has caused an unexpected error (1038) in line 1211 of D:\nt\...\oemsetup.c

The support staff at Maxtor were not very helpful. They told me to replace the cable; only connect this drive to the ATA card and the CDROM on the Primary IDE on the motherboard. All this did not work.

Anyone out there who can help me???

BTW, the system is a Compaq Presario 5724 Desktop.

Thanks,

Try moving your hard drive back to the motherboard IDE, leave the ATA/100 card in and see if Windows will install it automatically with it's built-in drivers. Then you can upgrade the drivers to the latest from Maxtor and move your drive back to the ATA card.
