Maxtor S150TX2 Plus

I'm have trouble with my Maxtor s150tx2 Plus controller card. When I put one of my existing hard drives on it, the write speeds are get really slow. I'm just wondering if I just have the controller card in the wrong pci slot. I have an 8rda+ and have all 6 pci slots open. I'm currently using the 4th slot. Does using slot 1 or 2 make it go any faster? i've tried everything from switching different cables. I don't know much about IRQ and what not so i have no idea about that.
