Does Maxtor send you rebagged drives to replace your RMA drive?

Just had to get an RMA number. ran powermax and my HD failed. Its been acting strange lately. Hoping they send a new drive and not a refurb.

Anyone here have experience with Maxtor RMA?

they wont send you a rebagged i wouldnt think, considering they make their own drives. they'll send you a refurb though. no big deal, same warranty as before, and it's been tested harder than retail units 🙂

Maxtor sends you the same make and model of the drive you RMAed. I RMA mined and they sent me the same model drive I had before.

It depends on how long you have the drive for. I think that they're drives are warrantied for 3 yrs 3 months.. so if you have an old drive, chances are you will get a better one back cause they don't have those smaller drives kicking around 🙂 If it's new, you will get the same as usual. That's my experience cause I've RMA'd Maxtor drives in the past.

Heh, I just RMA'd my Maxtor too. So they don't send you a retail kit when you RMA correct? They send you the drive and thats it? And the drive can be brand new or refurbished?

<< So they don't send you a retail kit when you RMA correct >>

You got it.

<< And the drive can be brand new or refurbished >>

Yup
A refurbished drive can be one that was repaired but usually they are items that were returned from the vendors because a customer returned it for refund thinking it was broken when their problem was something else. Maxtor (or whomever) tests the drive, finds it good and since they can't call it new, they use it for RMA's.

Drive is model 34098h4 its an ata 100 40 gig 5400rpm. I think i bought it in May 2001. So this would be considered new.

What do you mean by rebagged? If your asking if they send out refurbed drives the answer is yes, as do most hard drive companies. Sometimes you will get a brand new drive, I think it just depends on the luck of the draw and the worker who replaces your drive.
