Maxtor RMA Question

My HDD works for about 30S then it resets to PIO mode and brings everything to a halt. I tried running PowerMax, but it gets to 3 percent (after like an hour), and then never moves another inch. Even after letting sit overnight? How am I supposed to get an error code if the drive wont even work with the utility?

Tell Maxtor this and they should replace your Drive, although you might want to try replacing the IDE cable first.

Yeah, tell Maxtor that you can't even get the diagnostic utility to run. They should issue you an RMA then.

I had a similar problem once - drive wouldn't even spin up and once I told them that was the case, they issued me an RMA anyway.

Affirmative. If you can't run the diagnostic software on it then they still have to take it back (assuming it's still under warranty). Been there. Done that. :)

What they said. Call them and tell them you can't run the diagnostics and they'll issue an RMA. Been there, done that.
