Hi,

Has anyone had success swapping out a HDD from a Maxtor One Touch II drive that is using a 160GB drive and replacing it with a 500GB drive?

Any info on this is appreciated.

Thanks,

al

Hi

Came across your post while on a Google search while looking for help on same problem ? now self-taught, so thought you might appreciate the following?

Have just completed swap of 80G Maxtor One Touch Drive for 500G Hitachi Deskstar. Been on learning curve but worked out OK. Need to ensure exact match of new drive specs (in my case PATA, 133, etc) with old Maxtor (took out Maxtor HDD and cross-checked spec with Maxtor site before getting new drive).

Set up swap-in drive jumpers as per Maxtor original.

New drive will need formatting and setting up before being recognised in Explorer?..

In WinXP go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management. In tree displayed go to Storage>Disk Management. New drive will be displayed in diagrammatic area to lower RHS of window. Right click and format, set drive letter/name, etc. (But take care as it could be easy here to mess up existing drives).

Install any Maxtor software you need following Maxtor instructions. Should then work OK.

Alternatively you could just buy a new drive caddy (about £10-15 here in UK) fit a 500G drive and keep your Maxtor as is.

Cheers

Phil
