my 2nd computer has a 13GB maxtor UDMA 66 hdd, while in use, the computer locked up, after pushing the reset button, it says primary hdd failed, my next thought is my hdd is dead but after powering off and and waiting awhile and turning it back on everything is working. I went into the bios and it can detect the hdd as 13GB, but after the memory check, the 2nd screen before the windows logo, it shows the hdd as only 7.9GB even when the bios auto-hdd detect says it's 13GB and windows recognize it as 13GB, but I can't run any disk checks because it says Drive C: is misconfigured. I tried it in my other computer and it detects it as 13GB. At 1st I thought it could be a harddrive problem but now I think it could be the motherboard, I tried it with different ide cables and primary and secondary channels but it's the same thing. any ideas? already have the latest bios as well.

fixed problem, but have another question, what is the difference between CHS and LBA mode? I just know that LBA= large block access mode and is probably newer that CHS mode but is there any performance lost between the 2?
