I just built this system for my brother:
ECS K7S5A (SiS Chipset)
XP 2000+
Maxtor 30gb 7200rpm HD
24x CDRW
256mb PC2100 x 2
Windows XP
XP installed just fine, but now the Maxtor on the Primary IDE is stuck in PIO mode. DMA is enabled in the BIOS, and I have also tried removing the drive controller from the device manager, but still with no luck.
The 24x CDRW that I have as the master on the secondary IDE works just fine in DMA Mode2.
I know that W2K and XP default back to PIO mode when excessive CRC drive errors occur. I have tried changing the ATA ribbon cable with no luck either.
Would installing SP1 possibly help?
