just got a bunch of errors again from the 20 gb maxtor 52049U4 hard drive in my main system. these are popping up infrequently and randomly, but annoying nevertheless.

(attached is a screenshot of the Event Viewer...)

asus a7v mobo
win2000 sp2

this HD is a slave drive attached to the primary ata66 controller. the master is a quantum on the onboard ata100. everything has been fine for ~9 months until about 3 weeks ago.

event viewer error details:

------------------
Application popup: Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\HarddiskVolume1\internet temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\Q07BCL5D. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
------------------

{Lost Delayed-Write Data} The system was attempting to transfer file data from buffers to \Device\HarddiskVolume1. The write operation failed, and only some of the data may have been written to the file.

------------------

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 during a paging operation.

---------------

The driver has detected that device \Device\Ide\IdePort0 has old or out-of-date firmware. Reduced performance may result.

the last one makes no sense at all...it's not like you normally update firmware on a HD...

i have run the maxtor.com test utilities on it and all turn out ok. the cable and mobo seem ok...i'll swap another cable in, but i wish i could find out if it's the mobo controller or the drive dying. i sent maxtor an email via their online help form, but i'm sure i won't hear back right away.
🙁
