okay i had a ibm 75 something..it was suppose to be the best for ocing or something...i set it on 45 pci bus or something..it got killed...anyways..
then comes quandom...seagate...
at 42
it got killed..
so no money left..
so got cheap MAXTORS
harddrivers..
is it possible to get it to..
35 pci bus?
and by the way i have asus p3v133 motherboard..yes jumperS

and um..

on the jumpers for pci bus

there are
1/2
1/3
1/4
and reserved..
=I
wut is reserved?
right now i am running at..
133
33pci bus...
at 933mhz
before i had...
700e coppermine mine..
and my pci now is at 1/4
that is why it is 33 pci bus now..
i am trying to get it to 980 mhz
which is 140 fsb
and 35 pci bus...
at 1/4
so wut is reserved? mean?

What the hell are you doing running hard drives on PCI bus speeds of over 42MHz?

You kill EVERYTHING at that speed. Of course all of your drives are going to die. Why didn't you set the PCI bus speed lower?

Most hard drives will handle 37.5MHz PCI bus speed, but no guarantees for anything higher. Maxtors have a reputation for not handling much higher; IBM and Quantum drives handle speeds up to about 41MHz before they die.

Reserved setting probably means 1/5 PCI divider for when you go over speeds of 166MHz FSB....which your board is not capable of handling.

Maxtors aren't known to be overclocking friendly but you'll fry anything at the speeds you've been running.

Super6

i know guys

that was one month ago
before i got "addicted" in o/coing my computer
now i have learned a lot
but um...

now i will NEVER EVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVER run anything about 35 pci bus
hehe
so andy
u saying
my board cant handle 1/5 ra?

and super6
u saying
maxtor cant handle 35 pci bus ra?

No....the reserved setting doesn't mean anything until you actually test it, since it doesn't actually come out and say what it does. Leave it alone....you probably won't need it.

Most PCI devices will quite happily run at 37.5MHz. I recommend limiting yourself to about 39MHz PCI. That is the highest that I would be willing to run anything at.

Best thing to do is avoid the Maxtors. As I said above, they have a reputation of not liking high PCI bus speeds. Get an IBM 75GXP or a Quantum LM.

manz
no money now
i just got 2 maxtor too
*sigh*

my ibm and seagate is messed up now
=(

geese

can they be "repaired"

What do you mean by messed up? Is the data corrupted? The drives may still be useable. Do a complete low level format of the drives and then plug them back in. Do full thorough scandisks and check for bad sectors. If they all check out fine, then looks like you can still use those drives.
