I had a Maxtor 160gb fail on me back in June. Luckily it died a few days before the warranty expired. So I called them up and they were cool with it and everything. Sent me a replacement pretty quick. So I got the exact same model but it's a refurbished. No biggie I guess. Then it started to make clicking noises as of late. Then last night when I was sleeping, I heard 3 loud popping noise. I didn't know it came from the computer case. Found out this morning the harddrive died overnight.

Then I checked online again to see if there is even a warranty for a refurbished drive. It actually does have one but it ended 2 days ago! So twice now I had the harddrive die on me near the end of the warranty period. Conspiracy? Hm... anyways, anyone knows if Maxtor is lenient enough to still send me a replacement? It's only two days passed and considering they sent me a replacement that barely lasted 2-3 months.

Why don't you try calling them?

Posting on ATOT takes about the same amount of time it takes to lift up the reciever and dial the number.

I ran through several WD drives that way. I think that as long as the junk refurbs are all within the first drive's warranty period they won't hassle you much.
