Next time....buy Seagates!!! 🙂

5 Year warranty.....and hopefully reliable enough to you don't have to collect on it!

Everyone would rather have their data than a new HD....usually.

the only normal thing about it is ive seen it happen to every drive manufacture ... usually as a result from a power surge. I agree with tynopik too... take a look a your power supply too ... just as a precaution

THanks, I'll check it out. But the thing has been running for awhile with no problems. I love seagates myself, Western Digital I have never used but they aren't too bad either are they? I might be getting a new HDD.

I had a WD drive burn a chip like that. Didn't smoke or spark, just wouldn't boot and was extremely hot around that chip.

Haven't heard anything bad about WDs either. Seagates do have the longest warranty tho. Previous posts are correct, check the PS first. No sense burning up a completely good drive!

Funny,I just posted an article in an above thread regarding someones choice of a Maxtor HD(unfavorable personal experiences with Maxtors/Quantums) and then I stunble across this thread right afterwards.
Made me laugh.
