My brother is in town for the holidays and he has a Maxtor OneTouch external HDD with firewire hookups. The drive is Mac formatted.

My computer is a PC.

The goal is to plug in his Mac drive via Firewire and quickly share files between my PC and his drive. In order to help this along I have a trial version of MacDrive 6 installed.

Here's what happens:

When I turn on the drive and plug it in via firewire to my PC, XP gives me the New Hardware Found Wizard and prompts me for drivers for 'Maxtor 1394 Front Panel'. It can't seem to find them via Windows Update or anywhere else for that matter.

If I cancel the wizard the drive shows up in the Safely Remove Hardware Icon in the Systray as:
Maxtor OneTouch IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device

So it's recognizing the device there. It is also showing a live firewire connection in the Network Settings of XP. But via My Computer or MacDrive6 I can't get the drive to show up at all. I'm assuming that I need some driver possibly b4 my PC will fully recognize the drive but I can't seem to find it or maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Looking at the Maxtor website all I could find were Mac drivers for this drive.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

Ok, managed to find the drivers from driverguide.com (what a crappy site BTW) and installed them and the drive was installed as new hardware. However it is STILL not showing up anywhere either in windows, macdrive6, or HFV explorer.

Hmmmm.

I don't think that Windows can read a Mac's format.

Some of these tools might help . .

Sounds strange.

If you don't succeed and the drive is currently empty, you might format it to FAT32 which is supported by OS X. Maybe that helps?
