Maxtor drive dead

My maxtor 60GB drive just died. It only reads as 30GB and the model is D740X-6L. I couldn't find anything on the net about recurrent issues with this drive. Wondering if anyone has had any experience with this particular model.

I have 3 maxtor drives and they have been running strong. I think you should activate the warrenty and RMA it.

What shows it to be 30GB? Are you using WinXP and FAT32? If that's the case, you need to use NTFS to see the full size - MS imposed that limitation, probably to try to phase out FAT32.

If I'm not mistaken, FAT32 should be acceptable (Though not the ideal solution) for partitions up to 128GB. It sounds like there is a problem with the drive. RMA that bad boy.

But not with WinXP.

those drives are not stupendous for reliability.. i have a 60gb and it's working okay.. but i've seen a few 40gb's go south (same model) 740.
