MAXTOR====*DEAD* ???

i have a maxtor 40 gig. it's the one with 2 20 gig platters and i think it is dead.
2kpro starts to transfer stuff to it and i get a blue death screen that says, "hardware failure, contact manufacturer".

first time for me. what do i do now?

i can return this thing right?

i'd of course return it if its an h/w failure 😉 see www.maxtor.com for that...there's some info on how to return the drives.

you can also go to their site and get this hd-test tool called...ehrm...powersomething...don't know..forgot...anyway there is a tool to download for testting your maxtor hd.

If it comes up with an error then you know for sure its an h/w failure...but...under any circumstances i'd return the drive to maxtor if it fails while NORMAL operation...because this shouldnt happen 😉
