I just got one of these... nice. It's really quiet so far, and that's why I got it.. one platter! Just thought I'de mention it.

Yep had my Maxtor 740DX since last Friday and it`s a great harddrive, fast and quiet 🙂.

i ordered a 40 gig ata100 7200 rpm maxtor from cnetpc.com a few weeks
ago. got the drive, and i couldn't really read how to set up the jumpers.
went to the website, and realized that i got a d740x!!! very exciting.
i'm happy.. extremely quiet..

hi !

would anyone of you want to try something out ?

Go to the maxtor site and download the utility "setacm.exe" (amset.exe ?)

It's supposed to be able to switch acoustic management on or off. (quieter but less performance)

There is some confusion whether the dx740 comes with acoustic management enabled as default or not. I would say: not.

I'd also like to know if the setacm.exe actually works with the dx740. On the website it says it is for diamondmax series AND all successors (so i'd say it should work)...but i couldnt try for myself yet since my pc is not assembled yet.

thanx !!!!

(for performance measurements of hds the best still should be hdtach imho)

Is the Maxtor D740X retail packaging any different than the standard Maxtor retail drives .........?
Can you quickly id this particular drive ............. or do you just have to scrutinize the model or serial number .......?

Thanks for the info ............
