hi !

would anyone of you want to try something out ?

Go to the maxtor site and download the utility "setacm.exe" (amset.exe ?)

It's supposed to be able to switch acoustic management on or off. (quieter but less performance)

There is some confusion whether the dx740 comes with acoustic management enabled as default or not. I would say: not.

I'd also like to know if the setacm.exe actually works with the dx740. On the website it says it is for diamondmax series AND all successors (so i'd say it should work)...but i couldnt try for myself yet since my pc is not assembled yet.

thanx !!!!

(for performance measurements of hds the best still should be hdtach imho)

Is the Maxtor D740X retail packaging any different than the standard Maxtor retail drives .........?
Can you quickly id this particular drive ............. or do you just have to scrutinize the model or serial number .......?

Thanks for the info ............
