Maxtor 4D080H4 and Windows XP?!?!

alright, I have this hard drive, 80 gb maxtor, and when I plug it in, my bios detects it just fine, but when i boot to windows xp pro, it does its little new hardware thing, gets to 'disk drive' and reboots, and keeps doing this over and over.

the pc is:

FIC AZ-11 MOBO w/ 1 Ghz T-bird
704 Mb PC 133
40 Gb Storage
WIN XP Pro
ATI AIW Radeon 7500 64 Mb
Creative 12x DVD Philips 8x4x32 CDR

any help would be appreciated

ps....i want this as a slave drive...

Put the 80gb on your secondary ide cable and see what happens. Sounds like the new 80gb is jumpered as a master. Your 40 gb drive is also jumpered as master or single drive and you might have that drive on the second connector and not the first connector. The pc will detect a master drive on the first cable connector, and then go to the second cable connector.

I would try and moving the new hard drive on the secondary ide cable first.

Make sure you in the bios turn on the secondary ide master and slave or make sure they are in auto. Otherwise bios won't pick up the hard drive.
