Hello. I have an Asus P2B-D with 2 PII 350s. I updated it to the latest BIOS but I seem to be having problems with my new Maxtor 40 plus drive. I set it as Master and installed Win2k.....when testing the speeds of it, it was only getting about 13megs a second. I tested it with 3 different programs. I downloaded to utilities from Maxtor which force the drive to ATA33 and I also turned OFF the write cache thing.
The drive has corrupted itself a few times now and one time, when I reinstalled win2k on it, the formatting went crazy and 6 partitions appeared even though I just wanted the one 40 gig NTFS partition. It wouldn't let me delete one of the partitions so I boot up with an emergency disk for partition magic and it showed that the drive had 2 partitions, one of which was BAD...
Thinking it was a bad drive, I brough it to my friend's house and he tested it on his machine and it formatted fine and was getting very high speeds (twice the speeds it got in my machine)...Basically, everything worked fine...

Sooooo, what could be happening on my machine that it is going much slower andnot working properly? I tried the tests with Dr. Harware, CLI Bench and HD Tach and all 3 ahd similar results..

Thanks!

Make absolutley sure that DMA is enabled for your drive. I have a DM+40 as well and it gave similar results until i turned DMA on.
