Where are you guys finding all these deals for compUSA if they aren't even released yet? I mean is there a website or something, or do they just know people.

Hmm, what if the MIR is only valid for those days, so you can't buy it now and PM later?

Where did you find one? I put in that sku# and it came up with a DiamondMax 40GB, 5400rpm, Internal Ultra DMA66 Hard Drive for $169.99. So what are you guys talking about?

Well I was really intrested in getting this hard drive if it was ATA 100 but apparently my friend above here has already said its 5400 rpm and another thing to add in to this fact is that you have to buy one of there PCI ata/100 cards to be able to get the $50 mail in rebate.. although for those of you with the old ata/33 supporting boards like myself that dont wanna get a new motherboard because there is no need but are intrested in getting a bump up in speed this might just be for you.

5400rpm 40G is one of the candidate HDs for $50 rebate combinational purchase with Ultra ATA/100 PCI since MFG# is k01xxxxxx.

I'm guessing there may be a different $50 rebate that only requires buying the drive starting 12/31?

Just got back from there. It's the 5400rpm kind. I think it's internal rebate (not from maxtor)..

warm deal.

if it's the 7200, it'll be jumping all over it.

I must be missing something then...I purchased this drive, 7200RPM, 45Gb, ATA100 for $149, and there is a $50 MIR from Maxtor...you get the coupon in the store...nice drive for an even nicer price.

Note about this 5400rpm 40G deal in Compusa.

There is a $50 rebate if you buy the HD between Dec. 30 to Jan. 6 from Maxtor. Also there is a $50 Fast Money rebate(on the face of the box) from Maxtor if you buy the HD & a ATA/100 Card before Jan 27.

BUT BOTH REBATES NEED ORIGINAL UPC CODE.

So it looks we only can get one $50. Can somebody call Maxtor tomorrow?

If this is true, I think I will return the HD to Compusa, since it is not really cheap.

Maxcom, i found it at pricewatch for $42 a week ago, that 's the cheapest i've seen yet, good luck. I did get one for my system, what a change in my hd performanced. I was going to sell it but once i put it in and used it, i'll eat the possibly $30 i could make off of it.
