ok, this is borrowed from another site.
Frys has Maxtor 300GB Serial ATA hard drive (retail) for $60 with free shipping. Note, these drives are mostly likely rebadged Seagate 320GB drives (hence the bonus 20GB). Lowest on PriceGrabber is $113.

All Maxtor retail internal hard drives come with 3-year warranty.

I did a little more research, and found...
"THESE ARE GUARANTEED REBADGED SEAGATE 7200.10 320GB PERPENDICULAR SATA DRIVES (except 3 yr warranty instead of 5 yr)"

We already have a more current thread here

I hit the Maxtor 500GB $89 deal and they were also 7200.10s Seagate has reduced to 1 manuf line, there are NO more Maxtor drives. It's just rebadges. My product id was: STM3500630as (note the added M) and there's a 7200.10 mark on the lower corner of the label also.

OK, I bit......hope they are indeed 320gb Perpendicular Recording Technology drives.

Thanks OP. You saved me $16.40 over Newegg (Fry's has sales tax in OH). Had one of these in my wish list at the Egg......but no longer!

youre welcome. The way we know, is the past 2 times frys had this deal it was the case. I bit last time on the 300gb seagates, they were .10 as well. I also grabbed the 500 gb seagate for $70 from frys, it was perp as well.

its such a joke. Some of the stores only carry less than 10 of this HD. You wont able to get it unless u are there within 2 hrs of opening. I came 3 hrs after and I couldn't get any.

EDIT: I was almost done with ordering online and 1 more step to go, the site voids my order as its sold out.

I think I recall reading that there are problems with the perpendicular drives in USB enclosures? Anyone know if that's true or not? I've been searching for a good external hard drive.

Showing sold out online now! :(

Edit: After some poking around I located this Seagate 300gb PATA drive for the same price & snagged it for use in my old Belkin external enclosure.... no extra 20gb's & it isn't Perpendicular Recording either, but it still has the 5 year warranty.

Went to my local Fry's (Manhattan Beach, CA) during my lunch break to take a look at this drive. There were plenty of them in stock. However, although a re-badged Seagate with the "M" designation there is no indication on the label that it's a Barracuda 7200.10. The box indicated it was from the "Maxtor Basics" and was a DiamondMax. I asked one of the guys on the floor and they couldn't provide me with anymore info.

I hate you for living in one of my favorite places :D.
I just stayed at The Belamar Hotel across the street from there about 3 weeks ago.

I used to live there 6 years ago.
