Ad for Chicago Fry's shows a Maxtor 300GB SATA 16MB cache retail box for $89.99, no rebates or anything. Decent deal considering most HDD deals are for EIDE.

One bit o' warning - Maxtor retail boxes EIDE HDDs are typically covered by only a 1 year warranty. I don't know if the SATA drives have the same warranty or a longer one.

This is also available at the Seattle area Fry's in Renton. (Just got the ad this morning...) I'm on my way over to pick one up! 🙂

Had a friend pick one up for me at Renton today, he said some looked like they were returns possibly. Said you could find unopened retail packs too though. Most definitely Hot.

Blast, why can't they offer a 3 year warranty on the retail drives like they do with their OEMs?

1 Year is not nearly long enough. Hot price though!

Southern California Has the same deal too. 89.99 for either the UDMA 133 or SATA 150. The SATA Says NCQ on it ........ 🙂

If you have a DFI board and get the SATA drive, you're most likely going to have problems since this is the diamondmax 10, it is, right?

huh wut crap?!?!

I picked up two this morning in TX, hope they work alrite

I went and picked one up anyway. They were out on the floor but if you ask them they have maybe 20 up on the top shelves.

why wont the hard drives work with a DFI board? i made 2 computers this weekend, both DFI boards and both with DM10 SATA drives, and they work perfectly fine.

I think there are 2 version of this HD😕. The silver label on the front are showing "SATA ULTRA 16" but the WHITE label on LEFT side will show "SATA/150", average seek time "9.0" ms when s/n is L60*xxxx(* is 2 or 3). If * is A~Z the WHITE label will show "ULTRA ATA/150":Q, seek time is "9.3" ms. I don't know it is important or not. I picked up one's s/n is L602XXXX so I can sleep better tonight.🙂

I've heard that the Seattle area Fry's is now sold out, but are offering WD 300GB SATA drives!! I will be going tomorrow to verify and picking one up!

That's what I used to say cause I didn't even know there was a Fry's some 20 miles from my house. The thing is that the things that I usually want are cheaper online than they are at fry's, only when fry's has super great deals, like this one, am I glad there is one near.

Thanks, OP! Picked one up at Sunnyvale. Had somewhere around 5-10 left. Another guy picked one up at the same time I did. For those who don't live near Fry's--on the upside, your wallet is probably a lot more full than those of us who do =)

Make SURE you update to the LATEST Maxtor drivers/firmware for these drives

They have been VERY notorious about file corruption and other pains.

(Latest drivers fix a bit of the wonkiness)

I tried to order if from Outpost. We'll see if it goes through. I'm in the Chicago area, but about an hour from the store. It makes more sense for me to pay $7 shipping than to try and drive to Fry's. I figure my time and gas money, it works out to be less to have it shipped. I even have a friend that works within sight of Fry's. I've had him buy me stuff and then ship it to me about an hour away. It's just easier.
