Maxtor 300GB 7200RPM 16mb SATA Hard Drive

Does anyone have any thoughts on this drive? Supposedly, the 16mb buffer makes it almost as fast as a raptor. Is there any truth to this? I'm sceptical since the drive isn't very popular.

It only wishes it could compete with a Raptor (at least the 74 gig raptor...) Check out www.storagereview.com and hit up their performance database. You can compare the two drives directly across multiple benchmarks. If memory services, the raptor pretty well slams the maxtor.

So what's the fastest drive I can get that's over 200gb?

The maxtor you speak of probably would be it, unless you set up a raid array with other slower drives. It definitely would be nice if the Raptor came in sizes above 74 gigs.
