Maxtor 250GB with 16MB Buffer

Peformance difference will be negligible with the 16mb vs. 8mb buffer. Same with NCQ probably. Look for test with NCQ.

I would just buy the Hitachi 250gb, very solid drive. Or the seagate 200
 
uh, rhino, have you actually seen reviews of the new DM10 drives? The 16MB makes an enormous difference, bringing performance much closer to raptor performance than any other 7200 RPM drive. While it's not quite as fast as the raptor, it's still very fast, and has 4x the capacity of the biggest raptor. As far as NCQ, it's not a huge deal, but it's still nice. While benchmarks seem a bit hit or miss, much like the first hyperthreading tests on the P4, users have often said that the system just feels more responsive when multitasking. Anyways, 16MB buffer is very important, and it's pretty much the best way to increase performance short of making drives run at 10000RPM, which just isn't feasible on large drives. I just bought the 300GB DM10 from newegg for $204, if you can get one for $199 that's a good deal, although you'd be paying more due to taxes and what not, so i'd just go newegg.
 
Thats good to know. I'll go ahead and get one. The deal I was refering to is at Office Depot for a 300GB 16MB drive for $159.97 after rebate.
