HOT! I paid similar for mine, but with two hefty rebates. I just need the 400 gb drives to hit a similar price/gig ratio, and I'll be in hog heaven!

Is SATA good? Definite difference over UDMA 133?

I don't know the technical specifics off the top of my head, but speaking (ok, typing) from personal experience, there is a very noticeable difference between a UDMA133 and SATA.

Of course, the bottleneck could be your computer if its a dog, but you WILL notice a big difference.

Earlier this week Outpost had a 400GB PATA drive for as little as $119.00.

Confirmed in Phoenix too. Same drives, same pricing.

You absolutely should not see a difference between SATA150 and PATA 100/133 if they are the same drive to begin with and only differ in connection. Neither version of this drive can pump out enough data to saturate a PATA-66 spec, much less the 100/133/150 of the drives. That is in speaking from both the technical and personal experience side of it.

Houston 59 store, Prices are the same, drives are the same.

Its in the Houston Ad, so odds are all 3 Houston stores have the same price.

Based on experience, SATA has a higher burst speed than IDE. When I did an HDTach test, SATA2 was around 180MB/s, SATA was 120MB/s ish, and IDE was about 80-90MB/s. These are all burst rates.

I'm pretty sure that the prices are the same throughout ALL of Fry's stores. Even though the ad says that the advertised prices are only good in the circulation area (Bay area), I've always found the same prices/deals in the Downers Grove, IL store ... and, yes, those 200GB Maxtors for $57.77 without any rebates are a good deal, imo.

Keep in mind these drives are only 1 year warranty. I'm not thread crapping, just stating the facts.

Can you pricematch with Staples.com to get the price even lower? They have the exact same drive.

Might go and try this later. Should be able to get it for $52.55 after 110% PM.

Would've preferred a Seagate for peace of mind with the 5 year warranty. But at this price I may bite.

I never keep HD's longer than 5 years anyways. Usually by year 1 or 2, IF that even, I recycle the drives by selling it to my friends to obtain a bigger HD.
