are these Diamondmax Plus 9 or Diamondmax 10 drives? If it is the plus 9, the model of the drive will by 6Y200P0 while the 10 will be 6B200P0. Would appreciate it if someone that has purchased can look.

Might be too late for you, but I'll check tonight when I get home.

appreciate it. A local staples let me prepurchase one, so it would be good to know before I went to go pick it up (or return it as may be the case).

I did notice that the serial #s of some larger drives that have to be DM10s start with a B while the others had mixed Ys and Bs, so it seems like the first letter of the serial may tell you as well.

Well...it must be the Plus 9 because mine's coded 6Y200PO. I won't complain though...for $65 delivered it's good enough for me (i.e., I'm using this drive for game installation and some video editing).

thanks for looking. In any case, I don't know if there would be a huge difference in this model. Because of the higher density platters, the 10s have a higher transfer rate but everything else seems to be the similar - 8mb cache, seek time, etc. Definately a great buy at $65.

I think it may be a different story with the bigger drives because of the 16mb cache, and with the SATA interface, the ability to use NCQ.

Hot diggity! Dropped by Staples in Natick, MA last night and they had gotten additional stock. I bought one AND THERE WAS ONE LEFT AT 7:00pm.

Go get it!

Well, I prepurchased and just installed mine in an external case and it turned out to be a Diamondmax 10, 6B200R0. There were still a few in stock when I went today at my local staples, Miracle Mile, Los Angeles, CA. Post or PM if you want to acquire one.

Oh, and has anybody seen reviews or reliablity data on this drive? Storagereview doesn't have much info on the DM10.

MD.

Edit: Yes, this one has a 16 MB cache. Nice.

Storagereview reviewed the MaXLine III, which is similar to the DM10. DM10 is the consumer version. Here's a quote from SR:
Maxtor has also recently announced the DiamondMax 10 series. The higher capacity DM10 units (250 GB and 300 GB) feature construction similar to the MaXLine III right down to the 16 MB buffer. As a result, these high-end DM10 drives are functionally identical to the MaXLine III. Maxtor claims that the MaXLine uses select premium components and premium testing and manufacturing. In the end, however, the performance figures that follow also apply to the 300 GB DiamondMax 10.

I'll need to check to see if my local Staples has restocked with DM10s...

None on the shelf at the Santa Clarita, CA store, but the CSR got one for me from the back and it was a DM10. My EasyRebate has already been approved :)

BTW...anyone get the e-mail about a "new" Staples.com? I wonder if they will kick it off with a few hot deals?

"Dear valued customer:

The result is a site that's smarter, faster and easier to use. There are many new features and enhancements including: improved search, product tools, easy reorder, and detailed shipment tracking.

The new site was up earlier today but now it's down. I guess they're still working out the bugs.

I was able to get a DM10; however, my coupons expired yesterday ;_;
