I think this deserves it's own thread.
I bought two Maxtor 160gb 7200 8mb cache drives yesterday at Staples after pricematching to CompUSA's after MIR rebate price of 99.99. I did not get the 110% but 100 was good enough for me as I don't have to wait for any rebates. This also comes with the ata controller card.
You will have to try to find stores that will let you do this. It took me a few tries before I actually got it done but was well worth it.

Here is a scan of my receipt.

This deal could be better if you have a printable coupon. I bought two so I could use a 30 off of 150.

Changed title to include that this will most likely work at a B&M and not online.

Rebate receipt

Isn't that a Compusa branded drive though? I know it's a Maxtor, but it's branded Compusa. If it was a compusa branded drive, how did you get Staples to price match it?

Sal

I just showed them the part #'s on the ad for compusa. It's still a Maxtor and I also printed the rebate form which showed maxtor as the manufacturer.

the one they sold me wasnt compusa brand- it was maxtor 100%- no compusa box or anything...just pure maxtor

damn it no staples near by.. someone wants to pick one up for me? 🙂
(I tried calling the 800 staples number, they said they have reviewed this and they cant pricematch as it is a generic drive!!)

They're just trying to get out of it. If you look at the ad, it shows the model # very clearly.

this does not work 🙁

I just wnet to my local staples and they told me that they could not match an after rebate price

this deal is dead (at least using a CSR, may buying at the B&M will work)...all attempts to get a CSR on the phone to do a PM are getting shot down based on the fact the COMPUSSR is advertising this as a generic drive (even though it is a Maxtor)...Sounds like all the CSR's are aware of this...

Tried a few times but ended up just cancelling my order...congrats to those who got the PM...

I should include that this is only meant for the B&M. I could not do it online as well.

This is a HUGE, GIGANTIC, YMMV. It is very rare that Staples will price match an after rebate price. It's against their policy.

wow you local staples has a bunch of idiots working for them...lucky you...

everyone at my local staples knows the PM policy to a T...as in perfectly...

2 ways your local staples broke their own rules:
1) they are not supposed to PM AR prices
2) if you get a PM, and you deisre to use a coupon, policy says you can only use one or the other...

I got in at $0.51 a gigabyte - socal

Long story short, 3 hours time, 2 stores, lots of traffic. Final product - Walked into Staples with CompUSA ad, printout of HD at CompUSA.com, and printout of the Maxtor 160gb from Maxtor.com. Need CompUSA ad for pricematch. Need CompUSA.com printout for Mfg. Part# and Product Number to match on printed ad. (Printed ad only has CompUSA item #) Need Maxtor.com product printout for Mfg. Part#.

2 HDs______399.96
110%PG___-219.98
subtotal____179.98
Coupon_____-30.00
Tax 7.75 ____11.62

Total______$161.60

YMMV

Why are you the expert? I think you have the rebate example mixed up... If I can buy said item for $50 AR from their competitor then that is what they will PM it for.

My Staples PM's after rebate prices.
I don't want to buy it because I am boycotting Maxtor's decision to limit their retail drives to a One Year Warranty... They can fvck off for all I care!

Western Digital still sells retail drives with a 3 year warranty.
