Maxtor 120gb / Win2k problem causes reboot

I got a new Maxtor 120gb 7200rpm HDD and put it on slave with my 100gb 7200rpm drive. I have a 400watt antec power supply that is also brand new. The computer recognizes the drive in the bios and boots to windows 2k w/ sp3 but shortly after it automatically reboots. I also have a new nforce2 Asus delux motherboard. I have unplugged every device except the two drives with no luck. I have booted with just the new HDD and it seemed to work but i did not load an OS on it so I'm not sure. i have switched the HDD's to different ide cables still with no luck. I believe it is an OS problem. Any suggestions?

Update. I installed XP on the other drive and it worked well. No problems. I'm going to switch the other to slave to see if they will both boot into XP.
