Maxtor 120GB for $5

Okay,

I'm not positive about this one but I thought I'd throw it out there.

This week's Best Buy ad has the Maxtor 120GB 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive with 8MB Buffer for 99.99 and then a $50 rebate. This week's Fry's ad (LA Times) has a Maxtor 120GB Ultra DMA/133 Hard Drive, 8MB Buffer, 7200 RPM, Retail Boxed Hard Drive.

As far as I can tell they are the same but the pictures in the ads for the two are different. The picture in the Best Buy ad has a guy in a blue shirt on it while the picture in the Fry's ad is the generic red Maxtor box.

Assuming BB will price match:

59.99 (price match - 4.00 (10% from PM) - 50.00 (rebate) = 5.99

Ok.

So they gave me the price match but said they would not do the rebates on a Price Matched product. Then my lovely wife came up with a great idea.

We're going to go buy another one later today at full retail. That way we'll have all the rebate stuff.

Then we can return one at full retail and send in the rebates for the other one.

don't know if the in-store rebate form says the same thing, but the online form says "Customers who receive a price match will not be eligible for the rebate. Those who receive a rebate and later receive a price match, will have the value of the rebate deducted from the price match. "

The trick with BestBuy is to buy the merchandise at their price. Take it to your car. Return to the Customer Service counter with the competitor ad and your receipt so you can get the 110% difference.

If you try to pricematch when you buy it, they will likely either not do it, or only pricematch it even price.

THE TRICK WITH BB PM AND BB REBATES IS NOT TO WASTE YOUR TIME BECAUSE THE REBATES ARE PM CONDITIONAL. The PM is deducted from your BB rebate. Read allisolm's post.

Unless, it's manufacturer's rebate not a BB rebate.

Where I come from (And you can tell your lovely wife this) that is called fraud.

But go ahead and keep trying, it's not like you're not trying to steal anything, right?

Sheesh...

No shit, though I am probably guilty of overworking a deal every now and again myself.

But really if you think about it, its just plain pathetic. 😀

Yeah, its pretty scumbaggish to, hehe. Its a pretty good deal without going through all that hassle.
Anyhow, ive been wanting one for my ps2.

Bingo. If you PM at BB you won't be getting the rebate.

its Best Buy!!! remember they hate us (NY times interview stating there loath for forums like this and budget shoppers)

so its OK to fraud them 🙂

Sounds like you have it worked out, by buying the second one you will get the receipt needed to show full price. Take that one back using it's receipt and the originals UPC.... Sounds good to me, now I just need a Fry's around here....

I think each best buy receipt has a unique tracking # of sorts on it (in the form of a scannable bar code), so if you were to use the receipt with the full price to return the item, that would mark that item as not eligible for a rebate. So when it comes time for the rebate department to scan your receipt (presuming you plan to use the same receipt) to validate it, it will show up that the item on that receipt has already been returned, and the rebate will be denied I'd presume.

Best Buy receipts now have a section that list any qualifying rebates and their amounts.

So it is Best Buy only that has this ability to track if you got price match for a rebate? i remember a few months ago i got that TV Tuner for $5 after rebate from Circuit City though after price matching Best Buy... it was a $25 rebate and i believe it was a Circuit City rebate... So again what i am asking is is this a Best Buy thing since i was able to do it with Circuit City...
