I didn't see any post on this yet, so I thought I would throw it up here. Sorry if it's a dup.

Hopefully someone can find a way of dropping this price ;)

This is my first post. Guess I forgot some info.

Maxtor 120GB 7200RPM 8MB Buffer model# L01P120

It's in this Sunday's Best Buy ad.

$199.99 - $40 price drop = $159.99 - $30 MIR - $20 MIR = $109.99

*UPDATE*

Thanks to Sk3tch you can get this drive for less at Staples!

$149.98 - $109.99 = $39.99 diff + 10% of diff = $43.99 diff

$149.98 - $43.99 PM = $106 - $30 off $150 coupon = $75.99

(had to add $0.25 clips to use $30 off $150 coupon)

If my math is a little off, sorry. So after taxes I got it for $81.93!!!!

Link to drive @ BB

Link to rebates @ BB

Everything is showing up online at bestbuy.com, so go get it if you guys are interested.

NOTE: Staples.com has this drive!

Link to drive @ Staples

PM to Best Buy (110%!), use $20 off $100, or use $30 off $150 (buy online, add one item to go over $150, then call CSR to PM BB).

$149.98 - $109.99 = $39.99 * 110% = $43.99 off

$149.98 - $43.99 PM - $20 Coupon = $85.99 shipped + tax!

Use that $30 off $150 with a small item (box of staples or something) and save even more.

EDIT that title!!! :)

From the $30 rebate:
TERMS AND CONDITIONS: One retail packaged Maxtor 120GB 7200 RPM Ultra Series Hard Drive. Offer good on purchase made between April 13 & April 19, 2003 at Best Buy only.

PM would not have that $30 rebate. Besides, wouldn't Staples PM the pre-rebate price?

No, they PM after rebate prices. See any of the recent Maxtor deals, including the 160GB 8MB cache drive...

Call the CSR and do it...it works.

Link to Staples.com Maxtor 160GB 8MB deal...their after-rebate price matching shown in action.

I personally have had them PM drives AR several times. I bought two of the 160GB drives, and a 100GB+20GB drive.

You should edit the post title to include "AR" for after rebate. Lots of people hate rebates, so it is common courtesy to let people know before they open the thread that a rebate is involved. Not to mention it only takes two letters.

Read above...buy at Staples - no rebate. So his title isn't quite misleading in that regard.

The original title post doesn't mention Staples or PM or anything else. I still think it is simple common courtesy to put in two letters, such as PM or AR. How hard is that?

Price is not as good as the deals for the exact same drive at Amazon, OD and Microcenter over the past few weeks. Also there are two rebates to deal with. But if you miss those deals, this price is not bad either.

This drive is really fast. I'm using it as my system drive. The access time beats the WD1200JB by more than a full millisecond. Throughputs of the two drives are comparable.

If available, grab the ones with the old packaging, i.e. with a lady on the cover. These have 3-year warranty. The new packaging (with a guy on the cover of the box) ones have 1-year warranty only.

Lurker501, so you tried the pricematch and it worked?

If so, it's a great deal. No rebate to mess with.

i don't see a reason why this wouldn't work, I PM'd the 160 deal and it worked fine :) Though it did take a few tries since the first few csr's were stingy.

Yes it worked! with no rebate, and on top of that free shipping!

It just took a few minutes with the operator on the line while she confirmed the Best Buy price and rebates (which are only redeemable if you purchase at Best Buy)

I purchased the 80 Gig at Office depot last week and paid around $60 with rebate so I think i'm gonna return this 80 Gig now that I've got the 120GB coming. The 80 GB hd deal was around $0.76 a Gig whereas this 120 GB deal is around $0.68 a Gig

Thanks again Sk3tch!

Isn't this just a YMMV? I don't think most stores will PM the after rebate price, unless they're stupid. Also, getting them to accept a coupon for $150 worth after PM'ing to a lower price is an additional YMMV. I don't see many people getting this at all.

Can you buy in store with the coupon, then call up CSR for PM? Or, how are you doing it?

Danzilla: Since the rebate is only offered at Best Buy it isn't really considered a YMMV. Now you might get a stupid CSR that will NOT PM with the rebate, but I guess I was lucky I didn't have to deal with that since the first CSR did it for me.

DaiShan: I'm not sure if you can buy in the store with the coupon and call for a refund, but I did it online since there is no Staples close to me. :frown:

Guys...this is not YMMV, and if it is, you could consider it a very very RARE YMMV...just look at that 160GB 8MB Maxtor thread I mentioned above. MANY (if not all) people got in with the price being price matched AFTER REBATE at Staples - it is pretty common for them to do this.

I bought two 160GB 8MB's this way, and one 100GB+20GB drive.

Just order online like normal (@ Staples, and use either the $20 or $30 off coupon) then call a Staples CSR like 20 minutes after you place your order (so the order gets into the system fully) and say you want to PM to Best Buy...badda bing badda boom...they price match and your CC is credited.

On the average, how many times do you have to call before badda-bing-badda-boom happens?

I'm not saying it won't work. Just trying to gauge the amount of effort required on average. I'm sure if you call enough times, eventually you'll get a csr who's willing to do it.

I called only once each time I bought a drive this way (having them price match an AR price).

Honestly...Staples does this without a prob each time.

If you're worried about "hassle" - then pay full retail...pretty simple. :D

How are you guys going about this deal? I tried 2 CSR and they just killed the deal.

Order the hard drive item #: 499950
Then order something small to put it over $150.

Then what next? Apply coupon and then price match?

After putting the HDD + item to get over $150, I applied the coupon, then requested price match, but the CSR told me the new effective price is $120 for the HDD, so the pricematching would be $120 vs $110. I'm like, what the heck, should it be $150 vs $110, not $120 after a $30 coupon? The CSR just kept shooting me down...

Hehehe. Two orders in their system that I wanted to cancel now. :p 72 hour waiting period until they're just cancelled off.

Any insight will be helpful. Thanks.

hahah.... oMG!!!! just called.... got the order for drive and a little something to get $150.-- .... pricematched + 10% it to 109.98 BB after everything.... then i guess she by accident pulled another 50 off because of the BB rebates by forgetting it was in 109.98 BB price. The 30/150 coupon didnt work because final price was lower than 150 after pricematch.... so total came out to 53.-- !!!!! ...if she did the coupon before pricematch.....would of came to 20 something. hehe....sorry......brag & moan. hope my acct gets credited soon to be definately finalized. :D
