Hi,

Anybody knows what is the most likely prob with this thing.

Its performing 3 mb/s read / 3-6 mb/s write.

Same on either of my 2 systems, so I believe its installed correctly.

Can it be the 2 MB cache that is finito?

two things spring to mind, firstly is Dma enabled for the drive & secondly if it's a via based system, have your installed the latest via 4 in 1 driver pack?
also, more info on your system would be helpful to those trying to help! :)

Also check Device Manager and make sure the drive is not list as working in MS-dos compatiable mode. It can be checked in System Properties/performace tab, it should say "optimial performance".

or what about using the correct cable, you usin ata66/100 cable, not sure if improper cable would degrade performance that bad....but that gets overlooked at times.

Replies....(all 3 of u).

Everything looks as it should in windows and in bios (recognition etc.). Yes, we use ATA66 cable

I have another Maxtor twice as big but same model....udma66. It work in my ASUS p3V4 without prob. Reads/writes more than 33 mb/s.

The disk we are talking about is a friend of mines. He has an ASUS CUBX. We've taken the latest CMD drivers and the latest bios available om ASUS (1.07 i think).

When we move the 10 MB/ probl disk to my P3V4 it still works very sloooow! I mean 2-3 mb/s is like 486-days ( with a P3 500E).

So we are looking at a possible hardware failure I think. But u guys know! - Saving the extra money buying a new (ehile serviced within 3 y garauntee) could be interesting.

Excuse any spelling errors,,,, I m not english *S*...

If I on my wellworking system P3V4 (via chipset) install the newest 4in1 driver it surely begins to suck! - Performance degrades to 25 mb/s.
Don't know why that is. I've tried it twice with same results...so I run it without 4in1.

Hi,
