newb question but I'm really interested in knowing the answer...I've noticed motherboards that have 2 different sets of SATA connectors...for example the Maximus III board has 6 SATA connectors powered by the P55 chipset and an additional 4 SATA connectors powered by the JMicron chipset...does one provide better performance then the other?...what's the point of having 2 sets of SATA powered by 2 different chipsets in one motherboard?

I've always plugged in all my optical drives and hard drives into the main SATA chipset...am I missing something?...can anyone explain to me this feature and its benefits...Thanks

Simply that the P55 only supplies 6 connections and Asus wanted a board with 10, I'd assume the P55 supplied connections best for hard drives and use the others for SATA optical drives and such.
