I have the above-mentioned Asus Maximus VIII Gene mATX board, 6700K and 16g (8/8) of proper ddr4 as referenced in the documentation. It won't POST, and to this point anyway, it won't display anything. It will turn on the monitor, evidenced by the power light changing color, but nothing else. I've tried both the displayport and the dvi-d outputs. I've checked the cpu pins, perfect, studied the mem slots, look fine. I've unplugged everything including mouse and keyboard, every header, and am using just one stick of memory, installed in the proper slot for just one stick of memory.
As you may know, this board displays diagnostic lights for for cpu, dram, vga and boot device. It also displays Q-Codes. Since I've begun this process, I've seen a number of codes, but most reliably I'm getting the orange Boot Device diag light on steady, and Q-Code 99, which is SuperIO Initialization, whatever the hell that means. If I add a bootable sata ssd, or if I plug in a bootable usb stick, I get the same result.
I'm running out of ideas, aside from a defective (your component choice here). Can anyone give me some insight in how to interpret diag lights and Q-Codes? Thanks zz03
