Maximum Videocard in Asus P2B

Hello,

Currently I'm using a Geforce 256 Hercules Prophet on an Asus P2B board. Obviously, both are outdated.

I'm currently planning to upgrade my system to a P4 3.2 on an Asus P4C 800-E Deluxe with 512Mb Dual Channel memory.

But, that's not going to happen in the immediate future.

I have been looking at some videocards to replace my current one, but I see that the P2B has only AGP 1.0 and almost all cards these days need AGP 2.0 or 3.0.

The question is: What is a good videocard that works in the P2B now, but that is also a good choice for the coming P4C800-E Deluxe?

I wish to prevent the situation where I get the best possible card that fits the P2B, only to see it lack in possible performance on the P4C. I'd hate to have to upgrade the videocard again on short notice.

In short: Should I get a replacement to fit in the P2b, or should I wait out until I get the P4c?

I think you should just wait until the P4c... youre compromising your upgrade and you'll probably end up buying another video card later on.

My BX mobo in my old Dell is running a Gainward GF 3 Ti500 without trouble. I think a lot of cards are backwards compatable to AGO 1.0 / 2x

They may be backward compatible in speed, but not in voltage requirements. I just posted a similar post in the Video forum asking about the best vid card to put in an old AGP 1.0 slot. I tried putting an FX5600U card in my old P2B board and I couldn't even power on the system due to voltage differences on the AGP bus even though it fit in the slot. Newer cards use 0.8/1.5V whereas the original AGP 1.0 used like 3.3V.

I think the Ti4x00 series card would work.. but would those be the fastest? Don't know about the ATI cards.
