Maximum Safe Voltage for a 3.2c?

Amused

The default is 1.55. Would 1.6 or 1.64 be too high?

I ask because my Asus P4C800-E has some voltage swings. At 1.6 it can go as high as 1.64 idle and as low as 1.55 under load. If I set it at 1.55, it can go as low as 1.5 under load, and as high as 1.6 idle. This obviously effects OCing stability. I'd like to set it at 1.6... but that 1.64 spike kinda scares me.

Think it's too much?

I have the same issues with my P4C800-E. I have my 2.6C at 271FSB, voltage set at 1.575. Jumps around a whole lot, but its stable. Im just gonna sit tight there and see if a new BIOS will help level out the vcore.

1.64 is fine but your pushing it... You could do 1.7 but you might be risking a quick failure on the fragile NW core...

I have a feeling it's not a BIOS issue, but a hardware issue. The only "fix" now is a hardware mod... and I'm not doing that.

its not a hardware issue ~ its a hardware limitation.

the higher the MHZ the more power it draws, and the hotter the cpu and power regulators get.
you start adding more vcore to that, and youve got some nice vcore flux going on.

this is the same reason why most of todays boards cant even dream of running a Prescott.
its also why most OCers cr@p out @ 3.4-3.6ghz.

HTH 🙂

try this....
how far can you get on default vcore? note the temps under P95 full load.
how far can you get on 1.6v set in bios? note the temps under full load.

is it worth it? 😉

i dont think that spike will hurt as much as you might think even tho that is a fluctuation.
I am running my vcore at 1.575 and it does not fluctuate as much but does go to 1.6 occasionally never had probs with it, i wouldnt go over 1.7 tho
